Chitra Divakaruni: Writer, poet, mother, wife, and chief supporter of women's equality and human rights. An immigrant from Calcutta, India at age 19, Divakarumi has worked and written to better the conditions of women in abusive environments. Through her foundation of the helpline Maitri and her works of literature, Mrs. Chitra continues to be a significant source of aid who helps women rise again.
