Over 70% of the earth’s surface is made up of water, however less than 0.08% is available for direct human use. One out of six people worldwide lack access to safe fresh water. Bbanda, a village in Uganda, presently lacks a water distribution system, leaving villagers no choice but to collect water either from an unreliable borehole right outside the village or walk almost a mile to a contaminated, insect infested well and carry back heavy jerry cans filled with its water. Northeastern University’s Engineers Without Borders and St. Mark’s Church’s Friends of the Sick and Poor are on a mission to make a difference in this small Ugandan village—one drop at a time.
