HIS LEGACY

In June of 1995, the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center was opened. The Center was named after Reggie Lewis because of his devotion and "advocacy for the educational, physical, emotional and social well-being of the youth within the Boston community." Reggie Lewis' beliefs, in great part, mirror the mission and goals of the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

The vision for the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center is to serve and embrace the multiple constituencies and the surrounding community. The Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center serves as a home base for Roxbury Community College Intercollegiate, Intramural and Statewide Public High School Track Meets. Health and fitness activities are also available for members of the community. The Center created the On Trac After-School Program,m an athletic and academic program for youths (ages 7-13) which offers tutorials, computer experience and mentoring. The Center offers meeting space to non-profit community organizations, based on availability. And also through collaboration with the Reggie Lewis Foundation, the City of Boston, and the Northeastern School of Nursing, the Center hosts an annual Thanksgiving dinner for more than 200 senior citizens from the immediate vicinity.
