The Brown v. Board of Education case confronted the question on whether segregation of children solely based on their race deprives the minority children of their equal protection under the laws on the Fourteenth Amendment. The Supreme Court ruled that racial segregation in public education engenders a sense of inferiority among minority children. This overturned the Plessy v. Ferguson case by rejecting the principle that separate facilities were appropriate. The Supreme Court ruled that separate is not equal in public education. This event triggered an end to racial segregation in many aspects of life later on.
