Medgar Evers lived in Mississippi, a place where few blacks dared to speak of civil rights. Despite this, Medgar Evers still played an active role in civil rights and became a fervent member of the NAACP. He and his family endured many threats but he still continued to support what he felt was most important: civil rights. On June 12, 1963, Evers was shot in the back as he emerged from his car, becoming one of the martyrs of the civil rights movement.
