Robert F. Kennedy ("Bobby Kennedy") was the Attorney General during this time and he played a fundamental role in convincing his brother, John F. Kennedy, to support civil rights. Robert F. Kennedy is probably best known for his work in civil rights, especially his role in the integration of Ole Miss and his support of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Robert F. Kennedy was counsel to a U.S. Senate committee investigating labor unions in the 1950s. Robert Kennedy helped his brother become Senate in 1952 and then President in 1960. He served as Attorney General in the JFK administration. He actively supported civil rights and played a vital role in convincing his brother to support civil rights as well. He helped James Meredith's admission into the University of Mississippi and also helped pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He was later shot by Sirhan Sirhan after delivering a speech for winning the California primary.
