DID YOU KNOW...?

* That in some places, monkeys live in complete darkness in small, secluded cages as victims to animal testing. Hundreds of experiment drug testing on animals are severely dangerous. " . . . The test monkeys pushed the button over and over, even after convulsions. They began to mutilate themselves and, eventually, died of cocaine abuse." (Animal Liberation, by Peter Singer, p.66) Few people could obtain such amounts of cocaine in massive doses yet it was experimented in over 500 studies.

* That in countries such as Japan, Norway, and Iceland, whales are hunted with harpoons and whaling ships with lasers. There is a political dispute between whaling countries that consider Japanese whaling for research to be unnecessary. Harpoons and lances are launched to slow the whale until some reach the shore to be cut into half or until massive amounts of blood are lost. Commercial whaling has led to endangering certain species. In the 20th century, over 1000 whales were killed every year. Animal cruelty is no longer humane. Even undeveloped whales in growth are treated as beasts. Harpoons attached with penthrite grenades penetrate the skin and cause system failures including the heart, lung, and brain functions. Penthrite can be used as a laser. It is the 5th most powerful high explosive known, and can also blind the whale. In December 25, 2009, Sea Shepherd mocked the whalers on the Japan shore by using green-light lasers at the Shonan Maru No. 2 Crew.

* That there are mink farms where mink are strangled, suffocated, and skinned alive for their fur. Minks are semi-aquatic and carnivorous animals related to the weasel. The sea mink has been extinct by the 1800s.By the 1860s, mink farms were established to harness their skins for profits. It is said that most protests amongst farming animals is their caged confinement and unrefined nourishment such as expired human food. Minks are vaccinated from danger of inflamed intestines known as enteritis, or bacterial infections from toxin known as foodborne botulism. There are many cases in which farmers were convicted of animal cruelty which concerned the welfare and living standards of the animals.
