For His Country

Social Security:: International Trade:: Healthcare/ Wealthfare Reform:: Tax Reform

As a young man, Robert Matsui was greatly influenced by John F. Kennedy's 1961 Inaugural speech on asking what the citizens of America can do for the country. Matsui took his speech to heart and for the rest of his life, he dedicated all his time in fighting for civil liberties and helping the citizens of America. Before his death in 2005, he was the third ranking member on the powerful Ways and Means Committee of Congress, which in many respects is the most important Congressional committee, steering virtually all domestic legislation through it. As one of five Asian Americans in the House, he fought for minority rights, trade legislation, tax reform and healthcare.
