Sacramento
In the town of Sacramento
and the areas around, Matsui’s reputation and efforts have
secured him a steady place in Congress. His campaign involves no
more than a few phone calls and some ads. Most congressmen spend
much more money and efforts on promoting themselves. But Matsui’s
dedication to the nation, state and especially his city speaks more
than the ads.
In addition to his contribution
on the flooding front, he also worked to beautify his city by securing
a $142 million federal court house, which also produced 1,200 jobs
in that area.
The Town Bridge in Sacramento
also received funding for widening the sidewalk for pedestrians.
That link is important because it links several places together
(Capitol Mall, Old Sacramento, the Riverfront Promenade and Raley
Field.)
On the lines on transportation, he has worked to promote an environment
friendly bus called Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, which would
replace the buses that run on diesel. The train system (light rail
public transit system) received $100 million for its expansion.
