On December 10th, 2011, Leymah recieved the Nobel Peace Prize, along with two other African women, for their advancements in the rights of women. These two other women were now president of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and Tawakkol Karman.
The awards ceremony for the Nobel Peace Prize was held at the Oslo City Hall in Norway.
The Nobel Peace Prize 2011 was awarded jointly to Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkol Karman "for their non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peace-building work".
