This website was created in participation of the Seevak Website Competition, an annual competition at Boston Latin School (Boston, MA), in which teams of three students create websites revolving around a central theme. The Seevak Website competition recognizes "individuals and groups who have made a difference." To learn more, click here.
This year (2012), the theme for the Seevak Website Competition revolved around:
a person or group in the twentieth century that that has taken a courageous stand and, as a result, made an important difference to society, either on a local, national, or international scale, in the specific areas defined below. The topic encourages the investigation of an individual or group that contributed in some special way to building or improving tolerance, human rights, justice for individuals and the citizenry and/or democratic institutions. The person selected could be someone well known or could be someone local, perhaps less well known, but who has contributed something meaningful and important to the betterment of society.
"We chose to create a website on Rev. Timothy A. Peters because he has done extensive work to help improve the human rights of North Koreans. Rev. Timothy A. Peters inspired us with his compassion, bravery, and motivation in helping North Korean refugees gain the rights that they always deserved." -Henry, Michelle, Reika
Henry T., a sophomore at Boston Latin School, teamed up with Michelle and Reika to work on a website about Rev. Timothy A. Peters. As leader, he facilitated and checked the work being done and made sure everyone was on task and met deadlines. He was in charge of coding the entire website, but he didn’t mind because he enjoyed learning about Tim Peters. He was inspired by Tim Peters’s motivation, dedication, and perseverance in helping North Koreans.
Michelle M., a sophomore at Boston Latin School, was in charge of communication with Rev. Timothy A. Peters and was partially responsible for writing the content of the website. Michelle was the one who first thought of Rev. Tim Peters as the subject of this website, after watching the inspirational documentary “Undercover in the Secret State,” which featured Tim Peters. She was amazed by his dedication and extensive knowledge of the oppressive situation of North Koreans.
Reika H., a sophomore at Boston Latin School, was in charge of researching information about Rev. Timothy A. Peters and Helping Hands Korea. She teamed up with Michelle in writing the content of this website. She decided to participate in the Seevak Website Competition because she was inspired by last year’s Seevak presentations. Tim Peters’s work interested her because there are few known Americans who have devoted their lives to helping North Korean refugees.
