Involvement with the Water Project

As awareness was raised about the state of Bbanda’s water supply, Friends of the Sick and Poor continued its effort to help the people of this village find a way for them to be able to drink clean water. A collaboration with Northeastern University’s Engineers Without Borders (EWB-NEU) was formed in December of 2008. Director, Alyce Lee, traveled to Bbanda and Buyambi, Uganda in April of 2009 with four engineering students from EWB-NEU and their professional advisor. While in Bbanda, the students performed assessments of the village’s condition which entailed questioning families and discussing the situation with educators, parents, and students. They knew that bore holes, or water pumps, were what the village needed in order to make transporting clean water easier and more efficient.
