Louis Pasteur was a nineteenth century Renaissance scientist in the sense that his curiosity about what caused and/or could prevent illness enabled him to make key discoveries about food contamination, the process of fermentation, and the safe preservation of food, a process that would be known as pasteurization.

Cynthia was born in Shanghai, moving to the US at age 8. Currently in class V, she enjoys cooking, art, long walks on the beach, and poking dead things with a stick. This is her second year doing Seevak.
Esther is Vietnamese and a first-year participant in the Seevak competition. She has no experience with technology but is willing to learn if she ever does this again.
Katherina is Vietnamese and looks quiet at first but often is a bit weird. She is younger than her best friend, Cynthia, but acts like the more mature one. This is her second year doing the Seevak competition.
